Prefabricated houses

2013

This series of modular homes was created a Finnish architecture company that specialized in prefabricated houses. The final design necessitated that the homes were holistically similar to build, yet diverse enough to suit different living arrangements. In addition, it was important that the houses themselves were light in color and could integrate well into any given Finnish landscape. Following a modular architectural plan, Studio Suppanen designed the homes so that regardless of their individual size, the homes all shared the same functional and visual features.

Each house is divided into separate areas: inside, outside, and an in-between free-form space. The fronts feature a vast amount of windows while the backs feature only a few small windows and contain the official entrance into the home. Defining the in-between space, vertical wooden beams create an aesthetically engaging visual and tangible transition between environments.
