Villa Ohtakari
2013
Villa Ohtakari was designed for the owner of the Finnish architecture company Kannustalo. The overarching goal of the summerhouse design was to create a visually unconventional building that offers a wide view on the coast while still integrating well into the rest of its surrounding landscape. One of the most stunning features of Villa Kannus are the extensive windows in the front of the summerhouse that effectively frame the stunning seaside landscape. In contrast, other areas of Villa Kannus are rather closed off to disconnect the private interior spaces from the public outside world. With its dominating vertical beam structures and concave terrace roof, the exterior of the Villa Kannus is visually dramatic and engaging. This in turns creates a unique architecture that is reminiscent of both traditional Japanese houses as well as the dense patterning of trees inherent in a Finnish birch forest.
