Conceived and curated by Ilkka Suppanen and Harri Koskinen, Design Forum Finland staged a design export initiative at the Tokyo Designers Week 2010 called “HIRAMEKI Design x Finland”. This exhibition presented a fresh and multifaceted image of Finnish design to the Japanese public. “HIRAMEKI Design x Finland” highlighted a full repertoire of Finnish design, from technological innovations to individual designers, around a series of exciting themes. Its concept was based on six color-themed sparks that lead to “HIRAMEKI” as the seventh color. (For context, “hirameki” is a word meaning “the moment when one color changes to another.”) Overall, the exhibition encouraged new perspectives on Finnish design with opportunities to exchange ideas on design with each other.
